Adapt or die
More nightclubs doesn’t necessarily spell the end of the gallery scene in North Park
The corner of University Avenue and 30th Street has always been full of characters. The affluent boutique shopper on her cell phone, annoyed as she shuffles by the tall guy carrying the cross who’s telling her that Jesus loves her. The tight-jeans hipster-type, crossing the street to get to Off the Record, careful not to bump into Mr. Suit-and-Tie who’s on his way to get lunch at Urban Solace. more…

Don’t miss being part of the 2010 NPN, a collective of business owners, artists, and community activists pushing to keep the soul of this neighborhood we love by cultivating the arts scene that is already here and facilitating its development as a strong and legitimate arts and culture neighborhood!

Ray Street Annex Classes
Next year’s class schedule is up! - Have a look at here
You’ll see I’ve significantly expanded class offerings; in addition to Saturday morning sessions, I now offer 3 or 4-session courses, and weekend in-depth seminars. For instance, take a 4-session evening course in Fabrication for Vessels, or spend a weekend making your own mokume-gane twist bracelet. Also, I’ve added many more Saturday afternoon lab hours.
• Saturday, December 12, 6-10pm - Ray At Night at the Annex
Here at the Annex (intersection of Ray St and North Park Way). Every 2nd Saturday the local art community on Ray Street opens their doors for an evening of art, but this one is always special — we put out our best work for your holiday shopping. Plus, I should have some new work that didn’t quite get finished in time for the other shows!

Artist Studio Space for Rent

Hello Everyone,
As most of you know we are in the process of developing an arts community center in the East Village area. This will have around 30 units of various sizes, 4-5 of them work/live, and significant common space, all at affordable rates (see below for more details). This projects intent is to provide for artists in San Diego and build community. It will be a testing ground and home base for SD Space 4 Art. We have a tremendous oppurtunity to begin to realize the ideas and enthusiasm that have been generating amongst the art community and fueling the goals of SD Space 4 Art. Right now there is a group of dedicated volunteers working hard to pull this off but without the participation of the larger arts community this won’t be possible. In order for this to become a reality in San Diego we need: a show of interest, help spreading the word, and volunteers. First off, we need a show of interest and prospective tenants in the next 2 weeks so that we can move forward on the lease. Things are developing fast so please don’t hesitate to come see the space and find out more.
Thanks,
Chris Warr
The next viewing will be on Sunday, November 29 at 3:00 pm
