The
San Diego Art Department provides an inclusive, collaborative
environment that fosters artistic expression, for all ages
and proficiencies, using art to contribute value and diversity
to the community through educational programs, exhibitions
and workspace. SDAD is a dynamic artistic community with rewarding
educational opportunities. We offer a relaxing and inspirational
venue to escape from the routine and hectic pace of life.
As a program of The San Diego Art Institute, The San Diego Art Department offers art classes, workshops, studio space for rent, and gallery space for monthly exhibitions.
In January of 2007, SDAD merged with the San Diego Art
Institute “Museum of the Living Artist” (SDAI) a non-profit
art organization located in Balboa Park. With a shared vision
to increase the visibility of the visual arts, supporting
the artists of Southern California, providing high quality
art programs and community outreach, this is an exciting
new chapter for both organizations.
MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of SDAD is to establish itself as a scared place that encourages the creativity of artists of all ages and stimulates the ongoing flow of ideas and expression.
San Diego Art Department offerers classes in oil, watercolor, acrylics, from portraits to still life, plein air to abstract. Also in the curriculm are classes in drawing, mosaics, stained glass, silk painting and jewelry. |

ONLY HUMAN
features paintings and drawings by Linda Kardoff
Opening Reception: Saturday, February 20th, 6:00pm-9:00pm
Exhibition runs from Feb 20 – Mar 14, 2010
“I find humans to be the most fascinating of all creatures, both in our nature and appearance. I am more concerned with the visual aspects of painting than the narrative. Since my work can have various interpretations, I leave the final conclusion to the viewer. Painting gives me the power to contradict some of the seriousness of life with a little of the ridiculous.” – Linda Kardoff
About the Artist:
Linda Kardoff is a figurative painter who moved from Chicago to San Diego four years ago. She won the Hoffman Trust Award in 2008 and won first place in two of the Southwestern Art Association's "Top One-Hundred Artists" exhibitions, among other awards in San Diego. Linda will be exhibiting large oil paintings and small narrative drawings at the San Diego Art Department through March 14, 2010. A closing reception will be held on Saturday, March 13th from 6pm – 9pm.
